The book has a number of elements, so could appeal to readers whose tastes are more inclined towards those. For my tastes, the elements of disaster and personal drama / introspection / reminiscence were too much. I'm inclined to want more plausibility in my fiction than most people - so for me, the unending series of crises ending up with such an unlikely safe & successful conclusion was not as convincing as I prefer.
