Elisabeth Tova Bailey's book The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating is part memoir, part natural history. Her journey of discovery about a tiny woodland snail is inseparable from her journey of discovery of living while in the grip of a devastating illness, and I found her experiences and discoveries touching and fascinating. As suits its subject, it's a quiet book, but an interesting read.
