The story starts in 1930s with Arthur Dunn, his younger brother, Jake, and his parents living on a farm in northern Canada near the small town of Straun -- working to make ends meet. The next chapter, readers are introduced to the 1950s and Ian Christopherson, son of Straun's only doctor, who finds a job working on Arthur Dunn's farm. Each chapter, different characters build something onto each side of the story. The pace is thoughtful -- the characters are unforgettable.
