House of Night by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast

Mini Review
I really hate giving bad reviews but this book truly disgusted me. I am really disappointed in P.C. and Kristin Cast. I mean honestly, do they think that all teenagers act like this because if they do, they need a reality check.

Love triangles are overused but I can admit, that some writers can really do it well. This love square thing Zoey had going on was ridiculous. I mean, come on? When I read about the teacher suddenly popping up in the picture, I was so grossed out. I mean, usually, older guys are sexy and they really get me going but this guy just grossed me out. Plus, I had no idea why Zoey would even be looking at another man when she HAD a boyfriend. What happened to being faithful? What happened to loyalty?

Don't Read on unless you Have Read the Book or You Will Not Be Continuing

Finally, the one moment that pissed me off like never before: Zoey slept with a teacher who was using her. How freaking stupid could she be? It was so obvious he had ulterior motives, so why oh why would she just sleep with him without considering her boyfriend, her protection, and her pride? For godsakes, she gave up her virginity to some pervert and expected her boyfriend and friends to like her afterwards for keeping secrets. What is wrong with her?

God, its characters like her that put me off. It sickens me to think that there people like this out there. Its like no one respects themselves in books anymore. Its disgusting. Zoey needs to get herself some self respect because her behavior is awful. Thank god I don't act like her because if I did, then I'd owe my parents a huge apology, along with the rest of the world.

Heather (hungrycookiemonster) If you hate this book, I can only imagine what you will say about the ones that follow.

Kelly Oram lol I was just thinking the same thing Heather. I can't believe I lasted as long in the series as I did and the more I read the less I liked the earlier ones. I haven't even read the last one or two I don't remember anymore. There comes a point where a series should just get to the point and end already... I really should go back and fix my ratings...

Lindsay Heather this one was the worst of all of them by far. I HATE this book with a passion because I'm a teenager and not a slut so this book insults me. A lot.
Kelly-I completely agree! Some books just need to come to an end, especially when they are this bad.

Heather (hungrycookiemonster) I'm VERY harsh on this series.

I have read every book except for the last one (number 8), which I stopped at page 5 because it was awful.

1. The author describes Zoey as a curious teen when it comes to boys. Um, most teens don't have 3 boyfriends. Zoey is a slut.

2. I can actually say this is the first series I have read where I have no idea who Zoey will end up with. This isn't a good feeling either. I can't connect with any of the boys if they aren't going to last.

3. This series should have only been 5 books. The authors made it 12 because of the popularity.

4. Later in the series the writing style changes a bit (I won't explain how because that may be a spoiler). I had the chance to ask the author about this and her response was something along the lines of, "I ran out of ideas for the story so I had to bring in this new technique."

Lindsay Sorry for the late reply Heather. But I agree with you.

1-No normal curious girl has three boyfriends. That just doesn't happen in the world.

2-You know you are so right about that. At first I thought, okay she's with this guy, and now she's with this guy but wait where did this guy come from?

3-Honestly? I would have been good with just four books. The bad guys dead or in jail and everyone happy. And I hate wait authors make series too long. I mean yes, some series stick with you and you always wonder what would happen but that's what you use your imagination for. I mean twelve books? I thought there were only ten?

4-I noticed that too. And that's really sad that a write would say I ran out of ideas because that should be a pretty good clue to her that the series should end and she should start a new one. Bring different techniques to other stories...

Wow. Even months later, this series still irritates me.

Heather (hungrycookiemonster) The series is irritating because it had a good story line only Zoey's whorey ways were too overwhelming. Plus, the series should have ended at book 5. The next 7 books are just filler until the epic battle in book 12.

Lindsay I agree. This series had so much potential and it should have finally ended. But Zoey's attitude and annoying attitude ruined. I'm still in shock that there's even going to be twelve books. I mean come on. Series get drawn out too long these days. The only series I felt that worked was the Vampire Academy books. And I think doing a different storyline in the same universe can work because her writing is so amazing.

Heather (hungrycookiemonster) This may be a spoiler but something tells me you have no desire to continue with the series.

In books 6-8, Stevie Rae kind of gets her own story-line. Hence the reason for the sudden multiple perspectives. If anything, Zoey's story should have ended at book 5 and then a spinoff for Stevie Rae. I probably would have liked it much better. It annoys me how the series through book 5 is all in Zoey's perspective then BAM now everyone has a voice.

Joy (joyous reads) I honestly couldn't even get through the first book of this series. I commend you for reading through the third book!

Lindsay Heather - That is pretty annoying. I did start the beginning of the sixth and I noticed Stevie Rae had her own POV but if this continues, whats the point? It always nice to hear from other's minds but not so far in the story line. And you're right again, a spin off would have made it a lot better.

Joy - I am shocked as well. I honestly thought the series would improve as I read on but it got continuously worse. I don't even think I'm going to finish the next two, I think I'll just bookswap. What did you think of these?

Joy (joyous reads) I think I was done as soon as she saw some guy (can't remember the name) getting a b**w j*b in the hallway. I couldn't continue after that. Lol. Bookswap them for sure! I was the stupid one for buying the entire series from the get go. I think I may put it up as a give away on my blog. Someone else might like them. :)

Lindsay I remember that! Gosh when I read that part I started laughing so hard. I mean, that's ridiculous, to open up a YA book with something like that. At least put a warning for some of the younger kids. Lol, although sadly enough, there are people I know who would probably do that at school. Anyways, thats a really good idea, because there are some new books I'm really anxious for. And since Borders is going out, books are going to be tougher to get.

Woah! I've heard so many awful things about this series, but all your comments are definitely making it seem even worse. I didn't imagine it would be this bad. I am so glad I didn't pick it up. Sounds like a complete trainwreck!

Lindsay It is Jennie. I thought this series would improve and unfortunately I own seven of the books - one was a gift - but I'm really going to try to book swap them because they're so godawful. Trust me, you're doing the right thing by not reading these.

Michelle Tempted By Books I know this is really late compared to your review but I am just now trying these. I have to say that I to am disgusted by this book. I understand being young and naive but this was WAY over the line.

Lindsay I'm glad some people agree. It saddens me that authors think they can write teens this way. I'm especially insulted since I know I wasn't like this in my teen years. Have you read the entire series?

Michelle Tempted By Books No, I haven't yet . Honestly the teacher thing really bothered me. That and I am getting pretty tired of the repetition. I'm not a fan of authors using too many words when things can be simplified either. So at this point I will try to keep going but I think I need a break for a day or two.

message 18: by Jenn (new) - added it

Jenn of Frequent Reader, Infrequent Blogger I kind of liked book one of this series despite it's flaws but I couldn't make it through book two, I've kind of lost count on how many times I've tried to read that book and I just can't seem to do it. I'm quite impressed that you made it past the second book. I'd personally rather read an encyclopedia and considering I don't like nonfiction that's saying something. Someday I will make myself finish this series but it won't be any time soon.

Lindsay @Michelle The teacher thing is just barf in the mouth annoying. Yuck. Do you know that the authors were originally going to end the series at book eight but decided to add more because the series was so popular?

@Jenn I didn't think book 2 was as bad as the others but trust me, don't even look at book 3. The only thing its got going for it is the cover. I wish I could erase the book from my memory.

Miss Esha This is true, having a crush on a teacher is one thing but to actually have sex with him is just....gross! If she had to do it ,it should have been with Erik or Heath.
