This is a fun series set in Portland, Oregon (the "with" author April Henry is from Portland) and features three women friends who collaborate to solve murders and other nefarious doings. The characters are interesting (a federal prosecutor, TV reporter, and FBI investigator) and the mysteries are well constructed, plus I enjoyed the various Portland and Oregon landmarks that are incorporated into the story. The publisher of this series primarily publishes faith-based fiction but the religious overtones are very mild. This is a good mystery series for those who don't want a lot of profanity (there is none) and violence (there is some as the act of murder itself is pretty violent, plus they get a little sleazy and gritty at times). I recommend this series for those who like James Patterson's "Women's Club" mysteries but are tiring of the violence. The sequels are "Hand of Fate" and the forthcoming "Heart of Ice" (March 2011).
