Loss / Tragedy / Family / Verse

I'm getting pretty sick of books where teenage characters have to deal with dysfunctional families and cope with huge emotional losses all by themselves. Mazzy is one such character, whose mother has been rendered nearly catatonic and whose father has left the family, due to an enormous, disturbing moment that leaves Mazzy full of self-blame and bitterness. Written in verse, this novel portrays the broken thoughts of a girl who just wants everything to be fine. Appropriate for an older teenage audience.
