Suggested by a friend in my book club. I knew there were a couple in the series but did not realize this was #11. I felt the book stood on it's own but I might have more invested if I had read them in order. Lead character is Victorian era midwife. Comes from wealth in NYC but has taken to supporting herself after her husband was murdered. Has a relationship with a NYC detective that hasn't progressed much because of the differences in their stations. Mystery was pretty easy. Murder at a seance. The questioning pointed me correctly to the murderer. I suppose the charm is time period details. Just an okay, quick, clean read. Not sure if I will go back and read the whole series.
