Gogol's humor and ability to stir empathy for the sorriest of characters is fantastic and subtle. I read The Overcoat after reading Dead Souls which is one of those books I didn't realize that I loved till I had finished it. The humor being
hid within the tediousness and dreariness of the story. The Overcoat, however, I knew while reading that this is a story I will read over and over. Gogol is rivaling my love for Tolstoy and even Dostoyevski...
