The Mind's Eye has a lot in common with other books by Oliver Sacks--a series of chapters about people experiencing various disabilities, usually related to a brain injury. Often the disabilities seem almost impossible. This book starts with the case of a woman who has lost the ability to read but can still write. The mind is a complex and amazing organ.
This book also covers some cases where the damage is to one or both eyes including descriptions of how different people compensate. One chapter dealt people lacking stereo vision. As someone with a correctable vision problem who choose to give up stereo vision to avoid other problems that came with correction, I was surprised at how much Dr. Sacks and others profiled missed stereo vision. It really sounded wonderful when he described it. I'm almost tempted to try for correction again.
