The Snake, the Crocodile & the Dog (Amelia Peabody, #7)

I want to like this series more than I do. I love the writing and the voice of Amelia. She puts the "g" in grandiloquent. And the postmodern retelling of a Victorian lady's take is cool. And the Egyptology is a real turn-on too. But the actual mystery is neither interesting, logical or anything less than convoluted. And there is not enough else going on to let the author off the hook for following some genre convention. I may try to read another (a third) nonetheless. And maybe the history--which are very cunningly packaged--are worth the practically nonsensical mystery.
