Out of Our Heads: Why You Are Not Your Brain, and Other Lessons from the Biology of Consciousness

This whole book is a refutation of the neuroscientific theory that consciousness resides within the confines of the brain. The writing is good, and the author mixes scientific studies with anecdotes to explain his arguments. It makes sense, but I have to wonder how many scientists really believe this "grand illusion" idea that he hates so much. One thing I really enjoyed about this book is that as he explained how the brain and body work, I became more and more impressed with how amazing we humans are. We are marvelous, wondrous creatures. I'm so glad I'm a human and not something else like a bug or a laptop or a beagle.

I agree about the laptops and bugs, but the relaxed life of a beagle has appealed to me occasionally.
