** spoiler alert ** First book of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series. One of my favourite books :) The book starts off with Soren listening to his dad tell about the "Guardians of Ga'Hoole", brave warriors that defends the meek and crushes the cruel. Kludd, Soren's brother, dismisses it off as mere fairy tale. However, Soren truly believes in this story. Soon after, a new owlet is born into the family, Eglantine. She looks up to Soren, though Kludd doesn't really care about her. One night, when their parents are off on a hunting trip, Soren gets curious and looks over his nest; the next thing he knows he is falling to the ground. Since he is unable to fly yet, he cries out for someone to help him. No help comes. But after a long wait two owls snatches him up along with another owl called Gylfie. They take them to a place within a canyon called St. Aegolious Academy for Orphaned Owls. Unbeknown to them, the academy reveals to be a darker place than any of them can imagine; with only the legend of the "Guardians of Ga'Hoole" as their shining light of hope.
