really liked it
bookshelves: writing

I really enjoyed this book. I recommend it to anyone who writes (especially novelists) or any Stephen King fan. I fall into the prior category, not the latter, by the way ;) Though, after reading this book I do have more respect for the man as a writer, I had virtually non before I might add *smiling*. He had a certain arrogance, but also a certain honesty and openess. Plus, I believe in this world that a 'certain amount' of arrogance gives you an edge, and I believe that we live in a world where an edge is often required to succeed...

That said, this book covers many area's; his childhood, finding his future/present wife, some other life experiences he's had, and many aspects of writing, and his belief's on certain effective methods. I liked his 'no bullshit approach' in this book, a kind of 'this is what I think/feel/believe and you can take it or leave it 'cos I couldn't give a shit' approach ;) But he does give some very good advice and pointers on the craft of writing, I don't believe in them all for me personally as I've developed my own approaches and methods. But that is kind of his point. He gives you the benefit of his experience and wishes you well with your writing. He tells you what has worked for him and other writer's and gives you many examples.

A four star read, read it if you like *smiling*.

9.0% "Just started this one, but enjoying the 'Stephen King Cutting Through The Bull Sh*t' approach. Although he states 'don't try to read between the lines', his childhood is very telling so far, as to why he can associate with his main genre. Enjoying this one."

50.0% "I don't agree with everything that Stephen King advises on writing. Though mainly, in part, as my own writing is in totally different genre's. Though there are certainly some damn good tips on writing and your approach to writing. Also, on content, dialogue, and 'the road to hell being paved with adverbs' *smiling*. There's an apparent arrogance, but also an honesty."

Ειρήνη Interesting and useful review:) Since I fall into both categories (or so I think) I will add this one to my to-read list!

Steve Thank you Eirini -x- I don't think you'll regret reading this book, it has some really good info. and tips on writing. Including; content, method, drafts, and how to cut your book down to the essentials, just to name a few. As a writer and Stephen King fan I think you'll love it ;)
