I liked the story very much. The usual Mating Heat is here, but it's different with Harmony. I always get emotional when there's family involved and I agree with other readers how Lora Leigh built Harmony's character. She's probably the most vain heroine, or Ms Leigh just put details on how Harmony pampers herself (pedicure, skin products).
On the outside, Harmony is very feminine, but has a tough edge to her. Little do people know she's a killing machine. I liked how they met, the circumstances were usual like instant sexual attraction and picking up someone and getting it on with him/her afterwards , but when Lance told Harmony how something just compelled him to go to the bar when he should've gone home, it was fate. It worked for me.
Harmony a.k.a. Death is also Jonas Wyatt's sister and I hated him at first until he somehow rekindled their familial ties. It wasn't difficult to imagine Harmony's situation - she who was always alone suddenly had someone to depend on, and her fears were understandable. How could someone who made ruthless enemies protect her child from the world?
Going back to Lance, I loved him! Sure he's dominant and arrogant, but he always considered Harmony's choices. He's really sweet and caring, and most importantly, trusting. He accepted all of Harmony and fought for their love. He was with her and attuned to her all the time. I don't need to say how much I loved their sex scenes because I always do - it has kink, dominance, and all the excitement.
The suspenseful angle and paranormal stuff worked for me too. I was anxious for Harmony, what with those who're chasing her always on her tail. Again, the story was open-ended to pave the way for the next which I'll read soon.
