Just Another Hero (Jericho, #3)

The third in the Battle of Jericho/November Blues series, Just Another Hero shows November returning to school after having her baby, Sunshine, the boys from the Warriors of Distinction who have disbanded after Jericho's death in the first book, and the relationships between students, teachers, and life.
Arielle is living with a stepfather who controls the money and essentially their lives. This was a unique storyline, as both Arielle and her mother must turn in their receipts from the allowance he gives them, he punishes them by withholding the good things that he can provide them, so when he decides secretly to get out of it, he packs up everything (since it was all of his from his money) and leaves the mom and Arielle living in a shelter.
Meanwhile, November is trying to get back into the swing of things with a baby (born three months premature) and school.
Kofi is dealing with an immature party mom while he takes Oxy to deal with the pain, yet he can still swing awesome grades and got accepted to MIT.
Can you see why it took a lot of concentration to get through the story, and those were just a few of the characters. Throw in a kleptomaniac teacher, a psychopath student who brings a gun to school AND the "hero" Osrick who has been bullied all his life but takes action when the going gets tough.
My thought is that these school shooting books actually outnumber the amount of school shootings that have taken place. But hey, kids will read them and it's a hot-button issue with a sensationalized topic.
