One of the most important poets of the 20th century for a reason. Fluid, technical expertise and cunning ability to make what seems like simple observation sympathetic and imaginative. Notable poems to my memory include “Large Bad Painting,” “The Man-Moth,” “The Moose,” and “12:00 News.” The latter is probably my favorite. She writes the dreaded poem about writing a poem and makes it completely original, describing the items on her desk as if a newscaster living there. A wonderful collection that is always meticulous, rarely oblique, and never irritating.
