This book deals with how 12 yr old Mitch reacts to how his life is changing after his parents split and get a divorce. The book opens with him carving his initials into the porch railing of an abandoned house next door to his grandparents' home by Bird Lake. He learns that life does keep going and that he will move on. I think this is a good book for kids to discuss what others may have to go through and how even when another family looks happy (the one that moves into the once abadonded home) that it's not always that way.
