Grandma Dowdel is the grandmother that you love hearing stories about but would be terrified to claim as your own. She's a no nonsense woman with a hidden sense of humor and a strong sense of justice. Mary Alice spends her junior year living with Grandma Dowdel when her father lost his job.

Why I started it: I've just discovered Peck's books and I love them. Finding this audio at the library was a special treat.

Why I finished it: Audio is the way to go. This story trips of the tongue and is the best kind of family lore, passed down verbally from mother to daughter.
