I have a hard time writing a description that does the appeal of this book of essays justice. Miller puzzles over things in a way that I love, and shares his experiences and reflections with lucid simplicity and grace.

In one story, he quotes his friend Penny, in whose opinion the Bible is something one should read with chocolate bars and cigarettes. Kind of like this book. It's a thing of beauty, really.
