There isn't time to blink in this supercharged thriller. Our intrepid narrator is first seen fleeing Darfur in a hail of bullets.

That seems to be the theme of this story, as it happens repeatedly. Or, he closes his eyes expecting to be killed and is rescued at the last second by someone else.

While I found this a compelling read, with lots of action and a few twists to the plot line, it had a sense of lightness to it that made me think Mr. Patterson had less to do with its creation and his co-author, Howard Roughan carried most of the load. Obviously, I liked the story, even with the required violence, language and graphic sex, but it wasn't that much of a Patterson novel.
