A delightful little romp through the Victorian British Empire--Flashman's an utter scoundrel, but (usually) likable nevertheless, and following him from the Horse Guards to India and Kabul--just in time for the First Afghan War. The history's excellent and well researched as well; there's probably no more enjoyable way to pick up a bit of history about the period.
