This book drove me crazy. First of all, it's terribly edited and WAY TOO LONG. One of my friends in book club noted that it reads like a first draft, and I thought she was spot on. It's so painful for me to read books that are trying to be smarter than they actually are, and this definitely falls under that category. Reading the same description of multiple Eastern European cities (beautiful vistas, exotic food, charming natives) made me want to pinch someone. But the biggest problem this book suffers from is its utter lack of any sexuality whatsoever. A sexless Dracula who just wants to curl up with a good book in a crypt somewhere is the opposite of compelling. And it took eight hundred pages to get there. FAIL.
