The story moved really slow to me. I never had that deep connection with the characters like I do in the other books.

Kara Thistle fled her California hometown after her engagement was broke off and she slept with her and her fiance's best friend. Now, she's an FBI agent trying to track down the babysitter murderer, which leads her back to Lantern Cove and the guy she slept with, police chief Matthew Beauchamp. Trying not to let their personal feelings get involved is hard for Kara when she is hiding the existence of their daughter, Briana, from Matthew.

With more children bodies being found, Matthew knows time is running out. What he isn't prepared for is to learn the newest missing little girl is his daughter he never knew about. He knows he should never want to talk or see Kara again for keeping this secret from him, but he can't fight the love for her that he still feels for her.

Now they must race against time to save their daughter and their relationship.
