It's raining Pigs and Noodles by Jack Prelutsky is a collection of humorous, sure to appeal to a younger audience, poems. They are written in all sorts of forms, from rhymes to free verse to ones that that one the shape of the subject (i.e.: a poem about a star written in the shape of a star). This book will definitely draw smiles and laughs from an elementary school age crowd. "My Parents have the Flu Today," "I took a Sip of Water," and "I am a Noted Liar" are three memorable ones. This poetry book would be good to use for literacy centers, fluency activities, writing related activities, or as enjoyable read aloud material for those extra five minutes at the end of the day. As our textbook notes, children need as much exposure to poetry as possible, and Jack Prelutsky's boks are often a favorite of many teachers and students!
