Will, a rangers apprentice and Evanlyn, a princess are separated when they are placed in slavery. Even though the work is hard, Evanlyn has the luxury of working indoors. Will’s luck is not so fortunate. He is a yard servant and forced to work outdoors in the bitter cold. After stopping the brutal beating of a fellow servant, Will must now face the cruel retaliation of slaves who are his superiors. As the days go by Evanlyn notices her friend slowly slipping away. She now must become brave again and risk her life for him.

Halt will stop at nothing to save his young apprentice. Horace, Will’s old friend, joins in on the quest to save Will and Evanlyn. As they travel they too run into dangers that test their skills and spirit.

I couldn’t put this book down! It was so hard to go about and do my everyday responsibilities with this book on my mind. I had it tucked under my arm or in my reach so I could pick it up when a spare moment arose. I LOVE this series.
