Kenan has just purchased an angel from the Hellsgate marketplace and plans to use his allure and skills that comes with being an incubus in order to add her soul to his collection. He plans to gain Jahel's trust by helping her get back the soul of a young girl she was supposed to protect. Kenan's plan quickly goes awry when he starts to lose his heart to Jahel. As their attraction grows, they get caught up in a battle between good and evil that could lead to the end of it all.

Kenan first wants Jahel because he sees an angel and wants to add her to his sexual conquests. It doesn't take long before he has something more permanent in mind. To get her to trust him, Kenan offers to help Jahel find the soul of a young woman she looks after. This is a shorter book so the romance starts right away. Well what is supposed to be romance. I didn't feel the attraction between Kenan and Jahel for the most part and there isn't much heat to the erotic scenes. Most of the book is spent trying to get the soul back from a hellhound at Hellsgate. You'd think it would be a dark, dangerous place but instead it feels like an old, dull town. Not what comes to mind when you think hell. The story moves at a slower pace even though there are mirror demons and witches who are trying to kill their step daughter (yup, snow white reference).

Things pick up quickly when an archangel is seen in Hellsgate and you find out that someone has stolen a scroll from heaven and broken a seal that has released War, a horseman of the apocalypse. I liked this story line but it felt like it was just thrown in at the end to make things more exciting. One minute Kenan and Jahel are making a trade for the soul and the next an archangel and Lilith (yes that Lilith) are at Kenan's door telling him the Scroll of Revelations has been stolen and a war that will lead to the apocalypse is close to starting. This story would have been a good read on its own but like I said, it just didn't fit with what happened in the first 3/4ths of the book.

Overall this was an ok book. The characters didn't wow me and I didn't feel anything between Kenan and Jahel until the very end. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if the apocalypse story line would have been to main focus rather than finding the soul of a person we never even meet. The story and romance had a bland feel to it. I guess I just expected more from a romance story about an incubus and angel that is takes places at Hellsgate.
