this is a complit nerd trying too hard to be cool. sort of kinda expected it having read a couple of online articles on her adventures with vampire weekend and the indie kids who worship them. but i didnt expect it to be such standard travel book fare. full of "the gravel crunches" and "the air throbbed" try-hard hyperbolae. especially after having really enjoyed her diatribe against MFA in the london review of books. its almost like (despite her protestation/apologia at the end of the book) she IS ashamed of being a complit nerd and thinks the way out of that is to write for the new yorker. gimme girardian complit nonsense any day than this travelogorrhea!
