Imagine a world where women have no rights. Where woman are classified by whether they are fertile or not. This is the world Margaret Atwood introduces in The Handmaid's Tale and this was my book club pick for the month of April.

It frightens me whenever I read a book that is set in the future but is still eerily relevant to the here and now. What is going on today with Planned Parenthood funding and the right wing fundamentalists of the US reminds me of the beginning days of the Republic of Gilead. I would hope that we would read this book and never let the horrific events portrayed in The Handmaid's Tale occur.
