Read from February 24 to 27, 2012 — I own a copy

This relatively short book was apparently meant to be the concluding volume in a trilogy comprised of two of the author's earlier works ('Defeating Communist Insurgency: Experiences in Malaya and Vietnam' [1966] & 'No Exit From Vietnam' [1969]) as well as the present volume. I had already read the second volume, but have yet to read the first due to the fact that during the last decade prices have gone through the roof for so-called "counterinsurgency classics", and I am simply not willing to spend US$150.00 even for a copy of Sir Robert Thompson's best known work. As far as this concluding volume of the trilogy goes, it is a useful precis of Cold War history up to 1969, but it is not as important or interesting as some of Sir Robert's other books.
