I read this out loud to my class in preparation for Thanksgiving. It's a fun story from the Time Flyers series about Josh and Katie Lexington, a brother and sister pair who host foreign exchange students with their family. The twist is, the exchange students actually come from the past as well, and the situations they face while adjusting to life in the future--and the agonies Josh and Katie go through as they help their new friends navigate modern-day life--are hilarious! There are always subtle moral messages woven into, that the kids pick up on without being slapped in the face by them. All of the books from this series have been big hits with my students, and this one was no exception. In Cooking Up Trouble, Josh and Katie meet Humility, a Separatist visitor who has "just" moved to Plymoth colony from Holland with her aunt and uncle. While hosting Humility, Josh and Katie get a taste of the Pilgrim work ethic and learn what really happened at the first Thanksgiving.
