Bukowski meets Kerouac meets David Lynch, but written by a poet.

This isn't the novel you want to read on the bus, or with your kids screaming in the background. Not because it's complex, but because the clever, often beautiful bits of language woven into the narrative are worth paying attention to.

The first third of the book is by far the best, IMHO. Because the quality dropped a tad from there it doesn't get five stars, but it was still more than enough to hook me on Denis Johnson.
