A feminist novel, no doubt, but not an in-your-face femininst novel. Frankie is a bright girl in an elite private school, and she wants to be known for her mind and talent, not for her newly-matured body and look. Lockhart uses word play to great effect, and I admire how she is fearless about word choice and vocabulary in the novel; it shows her faith and respect for her readers. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and if I still had any teenage daughters at home, I would make them read it!
