I read this book because I heard an entertaining interview with the author on the Guardian books podcast. Unfortunately it turned out to be a very immature debut. The author seemed to have used Wikipedia for all of his research (trimethylaminuria) and insisted on adding all his small private interests (many of which I share with him!) into the storyline in some way: e.g. urban development with references to Jane Jacobs and Milton Keynes or universal languages like Esperanto. At times it was entertaining, but in the end it was too contrived for me and without any beatiful language.
