Absolutely brilliant. This book gives a fantastic picture of the fomenting Age of Enlightenment as it played out in the Low Lands, and the complicated relationship between Leibniz and Spinoza. It also explained to me why I love Spinoza and feel unable to make any sense of Leibniz - but this you can find out yourself! It's a great read, very humourous, but with a historical richness that really satisfies. Philosophically, it is strong although the author isn't quite able to reflect the writing of Spinoza; however his enthusiasm and genuine awe for this great philosopher makes up for that.
