Summary: Chloe Gamble is a rising star who is rising a little too fast. As the star of the teen television show “Cover Band”, Chloe is sought out by a famous director for his next big film starring two other big time movie stars. Meanwhile, her deadbeat father is attempting to ruin it all by taking Chloe and her twin brother Travis to court and her equally deadbeat mom is shacking up with questionable boyfriends. Chloe’s life spins out of control as she says yes to too many opportunities and ends up on a hiatus in Europe while her family and agent worry about her return as well as her reputation. At just seventeen, this may spell the end of Chloe Gamble’s short-lived career.
Review: "Hot Mess” is part of the Chloe Gamble novel series. This installment of the series may be read on its own. The story is similar to real life starlet disasters. There are many references to minors partaking in drug and alcohol use. The language used in the book is mature and there are also sexual references. The story does end on a positive note and the main character, Chloe, does begin to turn her life around by the end. Told from multiple viewpoints, the font changes as each character tells a part of the story.
