I finally finished reading this book. If I recall correctly, this was the MIADB book-choice in December 2010 but it was right before I moved to DC and I just couldn't get around to it before I left.

In general, I found this book really interesting and heartbreaking. At times, I caught myself skimming sections that felt a little long-winded, filled with Irish names and the same stories more than once, but as a whole, I think it speaks volumes about Southie (and Charlestown, and Boston as a whole) in the 1970's and 80's and makes me glad I lived there when I did (i.e. 2000 - 2012). There really are quite a few interesting themes in this book - and it almost seems shocking that anyone made it out of there alive. Now I am wishing I had read this one in time because I am sure BCH and I could have duked it out about some of the issues!
