I thought this was a pretty good young adult dystopian tale featuring zombies, suspense, romance, and angst, excellent for Halloween reading as it happens! Teenager Mary lives in a small, primitive village where the Sisterhood controls everything, generations after our society has been destroyed. Only a heavy duty fence and constant vigilance keep away the hungry, flesh eating Unconsecrated dead who are in the surrounding forest. Mary must make a choice - join the ascetic Sisterhood or marry the brother of the boy she's truly in love with, and she hates both choices as well as her limited life. She dreams of seeing the ocean and escaping, but the hordes of Unconsecrated make that a no go - until a visitor comes to the village, and then the fence is breached.
