I loved this book. It is beautifully written and a great tale, full of heartbreak, humor, and awe. I loved the way it was told too. It transitions between third person and first person as the protagonist tells the story of his life to a chronicler. Even if you don't generally read fantasy, the quality of writing and storytelling really transcends genre. I highly recommend it.

Update: I have reread this book and it's sequel and love them even more now. I picked up an amazing amount of subtle worldbuilding and foreshadowing that I had missed the first time. It almost makes me want to move every other book down a star so these books can stand alone at 5 stars. I can't wait for the third and final installment.
