Probably deserves 5 stars, but it is incredibly dense and scholarly, more suitable to a reader with far more knowledge of pre-Renaissance history and geography than I'll ever have. Ultimately, it's about 500 years of Catholics killing anybody who didn't agree with them. When they started killing other Christians I thought they might be onto something, but eventually they always came back around to the arch infidels, the Moslems.
