This is a debut novel, that while flawed, was still an entertaining book with interesting characters and relationships. From an experienced writer I would only have given 3 stars, but I'm throwing on the extra star because I think Kramon shows potential as a writer. I'm curious about why a male author chose a 15 year old female as his protagonist, but he did ok with it. I struggled with getting a sense of time and place with the book. There were very few references to when it was taking place. Ultimately, it turned out to be current times, but I had this sense through much of the book that it was set in the 50's or 60's. There are other issues with time - there are spots in the book that we fast forward through time and that's not always handled artfully. But despite its flaws, I stayed interested in the characters and the story.
