Having read several quotes by Marcus Aurelius I was very excited to get this book (from the Douglas County Libraries).
The writing is good, but the book simply does not inspire as I had hoped it would. The history is wonderful to learn and Irvine's applications of Stoic ideas seems appropriate...

Ultimately... Irvine fails to convert me to Stoicism (grrrr... ) I so wanted to eschew all my cool stuff.

There is a very good index, an excellent bibliography and great notes.
I'll update this review when I'm done (currently on page 89 of 283).
