I'm amazed that Nora Roberts (J.D. Robb) has managed to keep this series consistently entertaining for 30+ books. Indulgence in Death was another strong entry in this series, with some great humor, dialogue, suspense, and pacing.
Other reviewers have mentioned that the mystery was a bit similar to a previous book, but it didn't really bug me, the suspense was tight enough that I didn't notice the similarity until after I finished Indulgence in Death. I zipped through this book in one sitting, then went back to reread some of my favorite parts.
I enjoy the mysteries in the In Death series, but what keeps me reading this series are the relationships. Roarke and Eve are a fantastic romantic pairing. I love watching them falling in love, then adjusting to the give and take that takes place in a relationship, and learning to become a couple. I also love the friendships between characters as well, I like that Eve goes from being a bit of a recluse to having a wider circle of friends. Her bafflement at trying to understand the various relationships in her life is touching and very funny.
The humor was top notch in this book, and I thoroughly enjoyed Eve's discomfort with too much nature, potentially armed farm animals, and little kids.
I'm happy that Roberts writes so quickly, cause I can't wait for the next In Death book.
Grade: 4.5 stars
