First, let me say thank you to my father for urging me to read this book. He’s been trying to get me to read Saramago’s work for a year. His style of writing was daunting to me, at first, but I eventually fell into a rhythm. It actually forces you to really read the text and absorb it. The plot is an interesting concept – and it’s amazing how just one word can shape or change history. Or in the case of Raimundo Silva, his future. It does make you wonder… what was left out of historical texts?

Joe Ok, now that you have a feeling for it, you need to read 'Death with Interruptions', it's a fantastic book by Saramago. I know, I know, starting another book by him is daunting, but when you get the urge, you will love this book, it is actually very funny.

Oddrun yap, it is, but why not "blindness"? It is a better book than death with interruptions.
