Connelly, Michael. THE REVERSAL. (2010). **. Here’s a formula: take all of your best-selling series characters and put them into a box; shake well and see what comes out. In this slow-paced novel from Connelly we get a story concocted starring Mickey Haller (the one-time defense attorney), Harry Bosch (his LAPD Investigator), and Maggie McPherson (Haller’s ex wife and a deputy DA). They join forces to face a retrial of a convicted child killer who has spent twenty-four years in prison but has had his judgement reversed because of some new DNA evidence. Of course, life isn’t that simple. There are lots of political overtones involved here, too. The DA has his agenda; he wants to become AG in the next election. If the convicted killer pleads to a lesser charge, there is no money in it for him since he can’t sue the county and state and write a best seller. The defense attorney supplied to the killer takes the on the cae pro bono in an effort to supercharge his career. Lots of agendas here. But...ho, hum. This is not one of Mr. Connelly’s best efforts.
