The title of this book is no misnomer. Dale Carnegie does exactly what he claims - he tells you how to make friends and keep them.
Whether you need advice or just something interesting to read, this book is an excellent choice. Who knows, you might end up wiser for having read it.
Carnegie is an excellent story-teller, and he uses clear, real-life examples to demonstrate his methods. In hindsight, his methods are what we would call 'common-sense,' but the truth is, it requires real effort to do the right thing in the heat of the moment.
It is also worth mentioning that there is nothing phony about this book. Carnegie does not offer any tricks to fool your opponent, or short-cuts to get your job done. His approach is one of empathy, and you could sum up most of his methods in one line: "Put yourself in the other guy's shoes."
