** spoiler alert ** The main character, Anne, is a "Mary Sue" from start to finish. She's beautiful, talented, educated. Everyone loves her. People feel sorry for her whenever she looks the least bit sad. Mostly everyone is kind to her. People think she's special. They consider her strong.

All of this just makes me very annoyed with her and unable to enjoy the story. She has no flaws, no real goal in the story (until about half way through when she realises her life could be in peril *roll eyes*).

She also, despite two scenes with very close calls written into them, remains a virgin. In one scene she's completely at the mercy of a masochist - and is allowed to leave his room without harm; in the other she's alone in the King's bedroom, a man she's been lusting after, with things developing swiftly to their natural conclusion, and a knock comes to the door which gives her the opportunity to flee by another door.

*sigh*

Not a good read. Not for me.
