Every writer I know names this as one of their favorite books about writing, and for good reason. Normally when I'm feeling insecure, panicked, annoyed, etc. about writing I kvetch to my agent. But this time I picked up Bird by Bird and it truly hit the spot. Her combination of brutal honesty and humor really works. Also, as the title says, this book includes instructions on writing *and* life. Her words can definitely apply to both. I cracked up when she said a newborn is "like having Janis Joplin with a bad hangover and PMS come stay with you." There were also some poignant, eye-welling moments. Overall, a wholly satisfying read.

Linda I love this book...her wry, sarcastic manner, especially with herself, is so entertaining, and to the point. I read a string of her books, but this was the best in my opinion.

Michelle I agree - I love her humor.
