Being a military wife, I have known some Japanese military wives, but more recently. So I'm familiar with commissaries, etc.

Easy reading book with invented pages from a book for Japanese wives (in both Japanese and English) bearing this novel's title. It was based on a book the author's father had bought for her mother, not realizing it was a book for maids rather than wives.

Moves along from POV of both mother and daughter. I wonder if it is one of those books where the author has said it all in her first novel and subsequent books just don't measure up. But this one, I enjoyed.
