This was the first Susan Wiggs book I've read and I would say her strengths lie in understanding the dynamics of a relationship. The characterisation was superb and I really wanted these two people to get together while understanding the confict that kept them apart. I don't usually read straight romance so chose this one because of the historical setting. Set in San Francisco the book had a strong sense of place, historical detail and medicine of the time. Perhaps, for me, there was a tad too much descriptive detail at times, but an excellent summer read.
