Genre: Regency Romance
This was a bit of a disappointment after reading Surrender of a Siren - mainly because this felt like a much more formulaic regency romance. Lucy Waltham, the heroine, is an amusing tom-boy who accosts her brother’s friend Jeremy Trescott (the hero) so she can get practice before seducing Sir Toby, her preferred hero. This makes for a number of very amusing scenes as Lucy and Jeremy “practice” and eventually Lucy realizes that it’s Jeremy she wants, not Toby. Unfortunately Lucy and Jeremy miscommunicate about that fact, and both go to their wedding thinking the other doesn’t really want to do it. The second half of the novel as their misunderstanding plays out is far less amusing, and felt rather flat and formulaic to me.
